When To Resume Sexual Activities After A Breast Augmentation Surgery?

One of the things that women considering to have a breast augmentation surgery are wondering about is when they can resume their sexual activities. Even though, this can vary with each case and the surgery that is to be performed, it is possible to talk about some timing in general.

As there are postoperative things to be careful about and recommendations for the patients after almost every operation, there are also some things to be careful about after breast augmentation surgeries. Because of the incisions that are made on the tissues and the trauma that the tissues recieve, it is important not to put a strain on the body after such an operation. Increase in blood pressure, can cause the veins to dilate therefore an unwanted occurrance of bleeding may happen. Also increased blood pressure soon after surgery, can cause the swelling and bruising to increase. Physical activities performed too soon after breast augmentation surgeries can also cause seperation in the wounds.

It is recommended to refrain from sexual activities for about 2 weeks after a breast augmentation surgery.  After 2 weeks, sexual activities may be resumed slowly in a gentle and careful manner. Manipulation of the breasts, heavy direct contact and pressure is not recommended at this stage. It is not recommended to have the breasts in bouncing movements for about 12 weeks. Using the special bra that the patients may be recommended to use during sexual activities can help prevent the breasts from moving involuntarily and receiving injury. Laying on the stomach, having tension on the chest and the arms should be avoided.

The patients should make sure to attend to their follow up visits after their breast augmentation surgeries. It is important fort he patient to be checked by their surgeon whether its about resuming sexual activities or postoperative recovery in general. Even though the patients may feel healed, it is recommended for them to check with their surgeons and have their approval when resuming sexual activities after a breast augmentation.
