Things To Be Careful About Related a Bichectomy

Related to bichectomy surgeries, it is possible to mentiın some things that should be taken into consideration in order not to have any problems for patients who have decided to have this surgery.

Choosing a doctor can be expressed as one of the first things to be careful about. When performed by appropriate surgeons, bichectomy can be said to be a simple surgery. It does not pose many risks when the surgical quality is good. However, unwanted, risky situtations can occur when it is performed by unsuitable surgeons without experience. The surgeon who is to perform this surgery  should be knowledgable about facial anatomy and experienced in this procedure.

As the incisions of bichectomy surgeries are made inside the mouth, the incision lines have the risk of being infected if not taken care properly. As the mouth contains a large amount of bacteria, after a bichectomy surgery, oral hygiene is very important. You should follow the temporary eating instructions that will be informed to you. It is beneficial to avoid food that can provide nourishment for the bacterial growth inside the mouth and avoid intense chewing movements in order not to cause distress to the stitches inside the mouth. Patients should brush their teeth after every meal and use the recommended mouth wash.

For a short while after a bichectomy surgery, the patients will need to change their eating habits. The reason for this is that the muscles in the areas where the fat pads are removed from inside the cheeks become sensitive caused by trauma to the tissues, and also there will be sutures in these areas. In order to reduce the risk of infection in the mouth after surgery, it is important to avoid food that will provide nutrients to the bacteria in the mouth during the initial healing process. So, during the first 1-2 days it is recommended only to consume clear liquids. Like water, clear fruit juices (such as apple, grape juice), tea, coffee, gelatin, broth. After this stage, patients can switch to soft foods. In addition to the importance of oral hygiene, intense chewing movements should be avoided at this stage in order to support a good closure of the sutures in the mouth and rest in the sensitized muscles. Therefore, it is recommended to eat soft food for 2-3 days. Like soup, mashed potatoes, pudding, rice pudding, milkshakes, smoothies. After this stage, patients can gradually return to their usual eating habits.

Intense exercise is not recommended immediately after a bichectomy surgery and for about a week. Early exercise may cause swelling to increase in the operation areas. Rarely, a severe increase in blood pressure may cause the capillaries to crack and intra-tissue hemorrhage. Therefore, it will be beneficial to avoid intense physical activity for at least the first week after a bichectomy surgery. Patients can have an easy healing process by eating healthy, drinking plenty of water and without putting a strain on their bodies.
