Eating In The First Days After A Bichectomy

As bichectomy operations are performed inside the mouth, people who are interested in having this operation are expected to be curious about eating conditions after this operation. Although a bichectomy operation does not come with a difficult recovery process for the patient, there are some points to be considered. One of these is the changes that should be made temporarily in the eating habits after the operation.

For a short while after a bichectomy operation, the patients need to change their eating habits. The first reason for this is that the muscles in the areas where the fat pads are removed from inside the cheeks become sensitive caused by trauma to the tissues, and also there will be small sutures in these areas. The second reason is that the food that is consumed contribute to the presence of bacteria inside the mouth.

Every person has quite a large amount of bacteria in their mouths. In order to reduce the risk of infection in the mouth after surgery, it is recommended to avoid consumption of food that will provide nutrients to the bacteria in the mouth during the initial healing phase. So, during the first 1-2 days it is recommended only to consume clear liquid. Like water, clear fruit juices (such as apple, grape juice), tea, coffee, gelatin, broth. After this stage, you can switch to soft foods.

In addition to the importance of oral hygiene, intense chewing movements should be avoided at this stage in order to support a good closure of the sutures in the mouth and rest in the sensitized muscles. Therefore, it is recommended to eat soft food for 2-3 days. Like soup, mashed potatoes, pudding, rice pudding, milkshakes, smoothies. After this stage, you can gradually return to your regular eating habits. But of course, oral hygiene is still important and you should brush your regularly and use your mouth wash after eating.
