After What Age Can You Have A Facelift?

Facelift and necklift operations mainly aim to correct the signs of aging on the face and the neck. The planning of the surgery to be performed is performed by evaluating the current conditions in various regions of the face and the neck. A patient’s facial bone stucture, facial shape, facial fat tissue distribution, facial skin quality, skin laxity, excess facial skin amount, deeper facial tissue positions are evaluated for their candidacy for a facelift operation. As each patient has a different anatomy with individual needs, the surgery planning and approach is designed accordingly.

The decision to have a facelift and necklift surgery is a personal one, so it would not be right to point out very sharp limitations on age regarding facelift surgeries. The facial structure of people of the same age can be very different due to genetic factors, differences in lifestyle, such as smoking, intense weight gains and losses, as well as external factors such as exposure to sun and gravity, can create a large variety of conditions. It is basically sufficient for someone to be considered as a suitable candidate for a facelift operation, if they have conditions that cannot be improved in the same manner by alternative treatments or operations.

To have a facelift surgery, for example, while 35-year-old person can be a suitable candidate due to having a lot face excess and sagging skin on the face after losing a large amount of weight, a 50 year old person may not be a suitable candidate for a facelift surgery if they do not have much of excess, loose skin on their face. Sometimes patient candidates may think that there is only some mainstream solutions for the issues they are complaining about. For example, a person who does not have excess, sagging skin on their face may think that a facelift operation may be required to create facial rejuvenation, in fact what they have is volume loss. When facelift surgeries are performed too early, they can give disappointing results when the amount of excess skin is little. However, it is also possible to wait too long to have a facelift surgery.

The aim of the facelift and necklift surgeries is to remove the excess, sagging skin and tighten the remaning skin along with the deep structures of the face if needed. It is preffered that these conditions of excess, saggy, loose skin and sagging deeper structures are not able to be improved in the same amount by other procedures. Facelift surgeries are usually performed on people between 40 and 70 years of age, while younger or older people may be suitable candidates as well. Each candidate’s suitability should evaluated individually.
