Can A Bichectomy Operation Be Repeated?

If a once performed surgery is to be repeated, it is called a revision surgery. It is possible to repeat bichectomy operations when needed. Occurances of a need for a revision bichectomy operation are less common compared to many other plastic surgery procedures. Although the content of the operation may slightly vary, it can be said that the basics are the same for every operation as standard.

Inside the cheeks of almost everyone, there are fat pads called ‘’bichats’’ (Bichat’s fat pads). These fat pads are one of the anatomical structures that give the face its shape. Depending on the general facial anatomy and facial proportions of the person, the reduction of these fat pads by a Bichectomy operation can provide an improvement in the facial appearance.  Bichectomy operations involve the removal and the reduction of the fat tissues inside the lower cheeks called Bichat’s fat pads through two small incisions made inside the mouth. Bichectomy operations do not involve much of risks and can be called to be simple procedures when performed by knowledgable, experienced surgeons who know the facial anatomy well enough.

As the reasons for bichectomy operations being performed again on the same patient, it is possible to mention some general situations. If in the first operation, enough amount of fat tissue was not removed, if existing asymmetry in the patient could not be improved or if newly formed asymmetry occurs in the patient, the operation may be repeated. The amount of fat tissue to be removed should be individually measured for each patient.
