How Should Things Proceed After A Rhinoplasty?
You have had your rhinoplasty surgery or you are thinking about having it or you are about to have it. There may be things that you are wondering about the postoperative process. It is possible to talk about some short-term and long-term things about this process after a rhinoplasty surgery.
You will need to take a break from your routine life for about a week after your rhinoplasty surgery. For this, if you have compulsory activities such as school, work, you are recommended to arrange some off time from them. There may be mild to moderate pain after a rhinoplasty surgery. Painkillers prescribed to you can usually help manage these conditions. Discomfort and pain (if any) usually starts to decrease on 3rd day after your rhinoplasty surgery. After surgery, bruising and swelling is not unusual. These symptoms usually increase in the second day following the operation and then gradually decrease. The amount of bruising and swelling and its duration can vary considerably from person to person.
It is important to know that the swelling caused by rhinoplasty surgeries may cause the nose to temporarily appear wider, and the tip may appear to be larger and less refined. Usually swelling in the rest of the nose disappears faster than swelling at the tip of the nose. Although most of the swelling greatly subsides in a few months, your nose will continue to heal for up to one year after surgery. Sometimes the complete subsiding of the swelling in your nose can take up to 2 years.
Some factors such as physical activities, consumed foods, habits and lifestyle can slow down your recovery and the subsiding of the swelling in your nose. For example, intense physical activity earlier than the recommended time, or the consumption of excess salt or foods which may cause inflammation, may increase the swelling in your nose or slow down the subsiding of the swelling. Alcohol and smoking can also be expressed as factors that negatively affect the postoperative period.
It is recommended that you do not lie on your side or your stomach, bend your head downwards in the first weeks after your nose surgery. You should also be careful about not to getting impacts on your nose during the healing process that can last up to 1 year. You should be careful about not wearing glasses for at least a few months, and make sure you attend all your post op controls.
