Is There A Relationship Between Your State Of Health And The Decision To Have Plastic Surgery?
As it is known, plastic surgeries are elective surgeries. Therefore, there is some criteria about the eligibility of a person considering to undergo an aesthetic plastic surgery. A part of this criteria is the state of health of the person that will have the surgery. Depending on the surgery to be performed, some health problems that the suitable candidate should not have can be mentioned.
When you visit a plastic surgeon for a consultation, before the consultation, to create a registry you will be given a form and in this form, usually quite a bit of information is requested including information about your state of health. The reason for this is to be able to evaluate your candidacy for the treatments or the surgeries that you are interested in. For example, if you are allergic to antibiotics, as they can often be administered during surgeries or prescribed to you afterwards, not knowing about this can create unwanted, dangerous situations.
As candidates for plastic surgery can have temporary or chronic diseases, it is important that they are known about and taken into consideration when the decision about having a surgery is being made. For example, if the patient’s blood lab values are out of the normal range, they may not be eligible for surgery. This can be temporay or may have become chronic. While this can be a bleeding, blood clotting disorder, it can also be something like the values being too low, implying anemia. With necessary treatments, the patient’s condition can be improved and may become eligible for surgery.
As another example, if the patient is diabetic and if it’s not under control, they may have conditions such as wound healing disorders and not be eligible for surgery. Or if the patient has cardiac problems, it may be risky for them to go under anesthesia.
Some people may have conditions that they do not know about. As the person’s age progresses, they may be more prone to some risks factors and someone with an advanced age considering to undergo extensive plastic surgery may need to have their health status checked in more detail.
For plastic surgeries performed in certain standarts, the patient should be given the needed tests before the surgery in the clinic or the hospital that surgery is going to take place. But these tests may not be enough to diagnose all the diseases including ones that the patient is not aware of themselves. Therefore, the patient should share all their medical history with their surgeon, and should there be any suspicion towards any potential health issues, it is advisable to have a more extensive preoperation health check.
